Learning "English" in Singapore ローカルで通じる英語と違う英語を学ぶということ

It's been a month since I came to Singapore. My notion that I could communicate better in English in Singapore was not really true. Singaporeans are all bilingual with their mother tongue and English. Sometimes I find difficulties to comprehend what local people are saying in English.  When I visited British Council here, I found many foreigners come here to learn "English". How interesting!

母語の他に英語を必ず話すことができるここシンガポールで、結構ローカルの人たちの英語が聞き取れないことがある。英国の文化機関ブリティッシュ・カウンシルに来て、ずいぶんと多くの外国人が英語を学ぶために、シンガポールに来ているという事実は新発見である。
